If you’re on the fence and confused about Sennheiser’s two latest offerings, the CX True Wireless and CX Plus True Wireless, no worries, we got you. Here are the five differences between the two products that you need to know before you make your purchase decision.

First, active noise cancellation is finally coming to the Sennheiser CX lineup. The CX Plus is getting active noise cancellation in tandem with the excellent passive noise isolation that we’ve experienced with the CX True Wireless, which is a first for the line, considering that the only other true wireless earbud from Sennheiser to get ANC is the more expensive Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2.

Secondly, there’s now Smart Pause. It’s essentially a in-ear detection feature that will automatically pause your music whenever you remove a earbud from your ear. It’s fast and responsive, and definitely handy if you constantly have people trying to strike up conversations with you when you’re listening to music!

Next, we have another big addition. While the CX True Wireless already had SBC, AAC and aptX support, the CX Plus True Wireless comes with all of those and aptX Adaptive as well. The addition of aptX Adaptive means lower latency when you’re watching shows or playing games, with latency times as low as 50-80ms.

Adding on to that, aptX Adaptive means there’s now high-res audio support. The codec itself supports dynamic bitrate scaling from 279kbps to 420kbps, and can support up to 24-bit/48khz playback.

Last but not least, the battery life in the CX Plus True Wireless is also different. You get 8 hours in the earbuds, with a total of 24 hours in the case. While this is an hour less than the CX True Wireless, the strength of the ANC present is definitely worth the tradeoff. The battery life is also comparable to other flagship earbuds like the Sony WF-1000XM4, and it’s definitely enough to power through a day on a single charge.

So which one should you get, the CX Plus True Wireless or the CX True Wireless? Honestly speaking, they’re both great for the price. If you absolutely can’t do without ANC and aptX Adaptive, the CX Plus might be for you. But if you’re fine with just passive noise isolation and you still want that Sennheiser sound, the CX True Wireless is a little more affordable than its big brother and has an added hour of battery life.
